Managing money in Ukraine is simpler than students expect. The hryvnia (UAH) is the local currency. All major cities have ATMs, and most shops accept Visa/Mastercard. Opening a bank account is straightforward.
Main options for international students: PrivatBank (most ATMs and branches), Monobank (online bank with excellent app, works immediately), and Raiffeisen Bank. Most students use Monobank for day-to-day and keep a card from home for major transfers.
Practical money tip: bring enough cash for your first week ($300β500) as setting up a bank account takes 2β3 days. Wise (TransferWise) or Remitly are the cheapest ways to receive money from family internationally β bank wire transfers have high fees.
