Kyiv is Ukraine’s capital and largest city — a vibrant metropolis of 3 million people with world-class cultural life, excellent public transport, affordable living and some of Ukraine’s most prestigious universities including Bogomolets NMU, KPI, Taras Shevchenko National University and NAU.
For international students, Kyiv offers the best of both worlds: a genuine European capital experience at a fraction of the cost of London, Paris or Berlin. A monthly student budget of $350–500 covers accommodation, food, transport and social life comfortably.

Kyiv has excellent public transport:
Kyiv is stable with normal city life as of 2026. Millions of residents including thousands of international students live and work normally. Occasional air defense alerts occur — mostly at night — and shelters are clearly marked throughout the city. The metro system doubles as a shelter network.
For students prioritizing maximum safety, we recommend universities in Lviv or Ternopil (800+ km from any conflict). Kyiv remains a viable option for students comfortable with a capital-city environment that has adapted to the situation.
